Professional knowledge

A structured body of knowledge gives a profession a shared, governed understanding of its field. It is the foundation on which competency, assessment and professional practice can later be built — but it is distinct from all of them.

Standards alignment

GIBA’s knowledge is informed by the concepts of international standards, including the ISO 19650 series on information management. This is expressed as careful standards alignment — describing where GBOK draws on established concepts.

GIBA does not claim any endorsement, certification or formal relationship with ISO or any standards body, and no such relationship exists. Alignment language is deliberately precise for this reason.

Vendor neutrality

GBOK is vendor-neutral. It describes concepts, roles and processes independently of any particular product or platform, so the knowledge remains portable and durable as tools change.

Terminology

Consistent terminology is essential to a professional body of knowledge. A controlled glossary will be published as terms reach a publishable status; until then, terminology is treated as developing.

Evidence and references

Public statements are held to evidence. Where GBOK references external standards or literature, it does so without reproducing copyrighted text, and without implying more than the reference supports.

Development governance

The knowledge develops under change control. Content moves toward publication only as it is reviewed and approved; draft status is presented explicitly rather than as settled.
